Latinx House and Adobe Foundation Reveal Two Programs Launched Under $6M Film and TV Fund

The Latinx House has revealed the two programs launched under its $6 million film and television fund in partnership with Adobe Foundation. The new initiatives are designed to support emerging filmmakers and advance bilingual storytelling and multicultural perspectives through two programs: The Gloria Schoemann Editors Fellowship honoring the late and prolific Mexican film editor, and the Proof of Concept Program, which will provide early investment for “authentic storytelling projects. The organization added: “These initiatives address the quantifiable gaps in Spanish-language and bicultural expertise within entertainment, expanding opportunities for multicultural storytellers while strengthening authentic representation across the industry to meet industry demand.”

The Gloria Schoemann Editors Fellowship will support bilingual editors focused on scripted features. Fellowship mentors include Waldemar Centeno (Gentefied), Joaquin Elizondo (Narcos: Mexico) and Carla Gutiérrez (Frida). The fellowship roster has already been set: Mario Fierro, who has worked as Cardi B’s personal videographer, Maria Gabriela Torres (True Justice: Bryan Stevenson’s Fight for Equality) and Alejandra Armijo (Andromeda).

Said Olga Segura, co-founder of The Latinx House: “Thanks to the support of the Adobe Foundation, we are not only able to invest in Latine filmmakers, but we are also honoring the rich legacy of the incomparable Gloria Schoemann, who made a profound impact on the film industry through her one-of-a-kind and groundbreaking editing career.”

The Proof of Concept Program supports advanced Latine filmmakers with demonstrated excellence in multicultural storytelling transitioning from successful film festival premieres to follow-up projects. Oscar nominated filmmaker Oren Moverman (The Messenger), Marc Forster (World War Z), and producer Jay Van Hoy (The Lighthouse) selected the two finalists for the program — Yolanda Cruz and Isabel Castro.
